James Leslie Hildebrand was born October 24, 1916 in Vernon, Texas. He received a B.A. in 1938 from North Texas State University and an M.A. in 1940.
He taught at Denton Junior High School (1938-39), Denton Senior High School (1939-40) and was an instructor at the University of Washington from 1949-52 before coming to Western Washington University, from which he retired in 1982 as professor emeritus of mathematics.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy and later the Reserves, retiring as Captain.
The exhibit showcases teaching tools he used in teaching math as well as photos documenting his time at Western, including, covering the Score Board for both Viking Men's and Women's Basketball for many years.
