Requesting Library Materials for On-Site Pickup or Mail

Requesting & Borrowing Library Materials for On-Site Pickup or Mail

Western Washington University students, staff, and faculty may place online requests for items from Western Libraries, for items from Summit libraries, and for items from interlibrary loan using the ILLiad system. These items will later be available for curbside on-site pickup, or they can be mailed directly to you.

Music Library materials are not yet available. (For questions about access to materials in the Music Library, please contact

Requests for materials must be submitted online via the OneSearch catalog on the Libraries’ website. Please use Firefox or Chrome browsers to sign in and place your request. Please note that the Orbis Cascade Alliance has re-instituted sharing materials on an opt-in basis as libraries are able to safely resume on-site services. At this time, not all Summit libraries have been able to rejoin, which means materials you may have requested through Summit in the past may not be currently available.

It may take 2 - 3 days to process requests for items from Western Libraries, and 10 - 14 days for Summit requests. Please allow for additional delivery time if requesting delivery via postal mail. Once your request is filled, we will send you an email letting you know that your item is ready for pickup or that it has been mailed.

Pickup Days / Hours (excluding holidays or  during intersession hours):

  • Tuesdays: 10 a.m. to noon
  • Fridays: 10 a.m. to noon

How to Request Materials for On-Site Pickup

For items available at WWU, sign in (use Firefox or Chrome) and locate the item you would like to request in the OneSearch catalog. Click on “Request WWU copy” for materials from Western Libraries, and "Request through Summit" for materials available through Summit," and then select “Curbside Pickup” as your delivery method. You will receive an email notice when the requested material is ready for pickup.

Health and Safety Protocols:

Curbside services are completely “no contact,” meaning at no point will library staff physically interact with you. Only library personnel will be allowed to enter the library buildings, and all library buildings remain closed to the public.

Other steps we are taking for the safety of staff and patrons include:

  • Library staff will wear cloth face masks, and we require that you do so as well.
  • Library staff will wash and sanitize their hands before and after the handling of materials.
  • They will also wear masks during the processing of all materials for checkout.
  • All materials processing areas will be regularly disinfected.
  • Staff have completed safe work practice training

Returning items

In order to ensure that those who are unable to return items due to COVID-19 do not accrue late fees, the due dates for materials currently checked out was extended to January 8, 2021. The book return drop located outside beneath the skybridge that connects the Wilson and Haggard buildings is open all hours. You may also return items by mail to:  Western Libraries / 516 High Street / Bellingham, WA 98225-9103.
