Change in Library Hours for Spring

Western Libraries will be closed on Saturdays through spring quarter while we work to mitigate staffing challenges exacerbated by the university budget shortfall.

This decision seeks to concentrate the Libraries' limited staffing where they can provide the greatest possible benefit to students. This includes factoring in usage patterns of the physical space as well as services like the Tutoring Center, the Hacherl Research & Writing, and the Student Technology Center. Over the years, Saturday has consistently been the Libraries’ lowest-traffic day, and we have gone through previous periods of being closed on Saturdays because of staffing issues.

We are monitoring the impacts of the Saturday closure, as well as the impacts of other position losses across our organization, to determine how best to redeploy our staffing resources for fall quarter. We welcome feedback from students, faculty, and staff affected by the loss of Saturday hours. As we make long-term decisions about staffing and priorities, we will communicate any further changes to the university community. Thank you for your patience and your input throughout this transitional time.
