Located on the sixth floor of WWU’s historic Wilson Library, Special Collections is committed to providing access to cultural heritage materials that support original research, active learning, and public dialogue around issues and ideas that have shaped our world.

Through historical resources such as rare books, manuscripts, photographs, and oral histories, we seek to enrich the university’s teaching curriculum and inspire interest in areas ranging from the art and history of the book to topics as varied as children’s literature, nature writing, Northwest fiction and poetry, and campus history. Our Rare Book Collection, in particular, connects users not only to historical texts, but also to the visual and material culture of past eras.

Exhibitions, lectures, and customized class presentations are among the many ways that we work to integrate our collections into the life of the university and wider community.
