This collection consists of publications and papers produced by Western Washington University faculty, staff, and alumni. Formats include books, articles, research reports, musical scores, and recordings, as well as a small amount of archival material.
As of 2022, the Western Collection designation is being phased out, and Special Collections is no longer accepting faculty, staff, and alumni publications unless they have a strong connection to campus history. We will consider donations of archival collections on a case-by-case basis.
Books currently held in the Western Collection that directly document the history of WWU will be transferred to the Campus History Collection. Legacy collections and access to them remain a priority.
Existing holdings of article offprints and other non-book publications will be integrated into the Campus History Collection’s biographical files. Finding aids for archival collections formerly associated with the Western Collection are now available in Archives West.
Please note that Western Libraries continues to accept copies of scholarly and creative works by authors affiliated with WWU for the general circulating collection. You may also submit electronic copies of publications to Western CEDAR, the university’s online, open-access institutional repository.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this transition. For questions regarding the current status of the Western Collection, please contact Special Collections staff.
