Artist’s Statement: I have been motivated to make art since childhood and over the years have worked in several mediums, including batik, silk screen, and fiber. In 2006 I decided to focus as much of my free time as possible on art projects, mainly working with paper, and this exhibit shows some of them.
What I like to do is play with color, shape and texture using various kinds of papers, pens, gouache, scissors and glue. I might start out with a small idea from something I have seen or read that in some way hooks me. Other times I doodle or mess around with paper scraps and see what happens. I try to show what positive energy might look like, be it of the natural or spiritual world, and to create a sense of the place it inhabits.
I wish to thank Western Washington University for providing opportunities for me to exhibit in various beautiful spaces, including the annual WWU Employees Arts and Crafts Show, the Murray-Goltz Archives Building lobby and reading room, the Small Business Development Center conference room and Wilson Library’s galleries.
I have also exhibited in the community, including group shows at the Blue Horse Gallery and the Community Food Co-op. I have also participated in two juried shows, one sponsored by the Bellingham Arts Commission and the other by the Jansen Art Center, in Lynden.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my art! If you are interested in learning more about it, you may contact me at this address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
