Expansion of On-Site Pickup Services to Include Sundays

Western Libraries has implemented recommended and required precautions to support the health and safety of WWU students, staff, and faculty while still providing access to library services and collections. The latest guidance from the State of Washington gives libraries permission to open their buildings to the public at reduced capacity if specific health and safety requirements are met, but also advises libraries to: “continue to facilitate services through the mail or via curbside pickup where possible to limit interaction between staff and customers within enclosed space."

Western Libraries is complying with the state’s advice and is providing online access to services and collections while also offering on-site pickup options and mail delivery of library materials. The Libraries remains open online and will continue to offer on-site pickup and mail delivery of library materials for the foreseeable future. Beginning Nov. 15, 2020, on-site pickup service days will also include Sundays.

Requesting & Borrowing Books and Materials

  • All current WWU students, faculty, and staff can place online requests for materials from Western Libraries, or for items from participating Summit libraries, and may choose either on-site pickup or mail delivery options.
  • The on-site pick up times are Tuesdays and Fridays between 10 a.m. and noon*, and items that are selected for mail delivery are mailed weekly. Beginning Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020, you will also have the option of picking up library materials between the hours of noon and 3 p.m. on Sundays (*excluding holidays).
  • Once your request is filled, we will send you an email letting you know that your item is ready for pickup or that it has been mailed. For more information about requesting and borrowing library materials, please see: Requesting Materials for On-Site Pickup or Mail Delivery, or contact us at library.circulation@wwu.edu.

Due Dates and Returning Books & Materials

  • In order to ensure that those who are unable to return items due to COVID-19 do not accrue late fees, the due dates for materials currently checked out have been extended to at least January 8, 2021. However, if you are able to return materials before that date, please do so. You may use the book return drop located outside beneath the skybridge that connects the Wilson and Haggard buildings. This book return is now open all hours.
  • You may also return items by mail to: Western Libraries / 516 High Street / Bellingham, WA 98225-9103. To find out if there is an Orbis Cascade Alliance (Summit) library in your area where you may be able to return materials, or if you have other questions about returning library materials, please email library.circulation@wwu.edu.
