Subscription Review – March 2018 Update

The Libraries is excited to share a new informational resource, our Subscription Glossary and FAQ, which is designed to help clarify our subscription management practices and answer some of the most commonly asked subscription-related questions. We invite all members of the Western community to peruse the document and contact either Collections Services or the Director of Collections with additional questions or comments.

Lastly, the Libraries has completed its annual journal evaluation (as described in our Subscription FAQ) and identified 22 high cost-per-use titles for cancellation in 2019. These titles, with a cost-per-use over $100, will be cancelled effective January 1, 2019, but will remain available through interlibrary loan and per-article purchasing, and may also be accessible through full-text databases like Academic Search Complete, Business Source Complete, or JSTOR. Collectively, the titles cost the Libraries $12,394 in 2018, and it is our goal that savings from high cost-per-use subscriptions will enable the Libraries to start new subscriptions in the near future.

If you have any questions about these cancellations, please contact Collections Services or the Director of Collections. We welcome your feedback and will strive to respond to all queries within five business days.
