Subscription Review – November 2018 Update

In order to manage the Libraries’ limited resource access budget responsibly, Western will move forward with a one-year renewal of the university’s current Elsevier journal subscriptions, without the addition of Scopus. The decision was made in consultation with members of Senate Library Committee. As part of the one-year agreement, and in order to preserve access to the vast majority of current Elsevier content, 12 high cost-per-use titles will be discontinued from the package (the list of titles is available here). These cancellations are consistent with established university practice, affecting only journals with a 3-year average cost per use over $100. Content from these journal titles will still be available via Summit and Interlibrary Loan, often in less than 24 hours. Cancellations will take effect January 1, 2019.

For more information on how the Libraries manages journal subscriptions, please read our Subscription Management Glossary and FAQ. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to Collection Services or the Director of Collections. We will try to respond to queries as quickly as possible, though a detailed response may take up to 5 business days.
