About
Gabe has worked at Western Washington University as a librarian since 2009. He first served as the librarian for Extended Education (later renamed Outreach & Continuing Education), with a focus on supporting students, faculty, and staff in off campus programs. In 2013 he took on the role of Research Consultation Head, leading Western Libraries' research and information literacy support program. In 2015, with Roberta Kjesrud and Kelly Helms (the Director and Assistant Director of the Writing Center), he helped design and implement the Hacherl Research & Writing Studio, a merger of Research Consultation and the Writing Center into one program. The program was co-led by Roberta and Gabe until Roberta retired in 2020 and he took on the role of Head of the Hacherl Research & Writing Studio.
The Research & Writing Studio (Studio) provides thousands of consultations supporting student inquiry every year with around 45 student employees, full time staff, and faculty librarians. In addition to drop-in services, the Studio also provides course-embedded services, a partners program for structured individual support, and more.
