About
Hi, I’m Gabriela Martinez, a Teaching & Learning Librarian at Western Libraries. I help students with research and writing, and I work with faculty, staff, and students to build our collections, create instructional materials, and support all kinds of scholarly projects. I also maintain the government information collection (yes, it’s as interesting as it sounds!).
My academic background is in classical languages, Latin American history and art, and the care and access of Indigenous knowledge. A big part of my work is about making research more accessible to everyone—breaking down barriers, questioning who gets to produce knowledge, and helping students navigate the colonial legacies that still shape academia today. I’m especially interested in uplifting underrepresented voices and challenging dominant narratives in both teaching and research.
Lately, I’ve been working on ways to help students use AI tools more thoughtfully and responsibly—thinking about how tech intersects with access, equity, and the information we all rely on.
